Carlos González o el arte de la comunicación gráfica

Desde que en 1584 se imprimiera en Lima el primer libro de América meridional en las prensas del piamontés Antonio Ricardo, el esfuerzo artístico aplicado al diseño gráfico conoció muy diversos avatares durante el Virreinato y en el primer siglo de la República. Las ornamentaciones de portadas exteriores e interiores, los grabados, las viñetas, los tipos de imprentas dependían considerablemente de las propuestas europeas dejando poco o ningún espacio para la creatividad nativa. Si bien falta mucho por investigar acerca del desarrollo de nuestra gráfica en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX y los primeros años de la presente centuria, la proliferación de periódicos y revistas le abrieron camino a la inventiva que grandes diarios como “El Comercio”, y revistas ilustradas como “Variedades” y “Mundial” plasmaron con cierta gracia y originalidad. Pero es en la segunda mitad de siglo en que las artes gráfica han conocido una intensa maduración lograda por un profesionalismo en cuyo resultado han coincidido el talento de nuestros artistas, la formalización de estudios en la especialidad y el desarrollo de la industria gráfica nacional.
Dentro de este panorama necesariamente genérico, destaca modernamente de manera muy considerable la brillante e intensa actividad de Carlos González Ramírez. Reconocido pintor y escultor, desde 1957 ha sido ganado por el diseño gráfico convirtiéndose en uno de los auténticos protagonistas de la rápida evolución de este arte en las últimas tres décadas. De ello dan cabal testimonio no solo sus obras – que e lo decisivo – sino también las distinciones con que ha sido honrado en importantes certámenes nacionales e internacionales.
Solo en el área del diseño de libros ha intervenido en la realización gráfica de muchos de los más nobles títulos de obras históricas, artísticas y científicas que constituyen esplendidos ejemplos de lo que nuestro país puede orgullosamente mostrar en este tipo de realizaciones. En el difícil género del diseño de afiches sus logros no son menores como lo evidencian reconocimientos de alta calidad como el Premio al mejor afiche turístico que ganara en 1968 en Milán (Italia), o el premio al dedicado a Antonio Ricardo en celebración de los cuatrocientos años de la imprenta en el Perú, en 1985. Pero su versatilidad abarca también diseños como el monumento a Paracas por el sesquicentenario del desembarco del Libertador José de San Martín, con el que ganara el Primer Premio. Hoy, ese monumento de concreto armado de dieciocho metros de altura, se levanta majestuosamente en la Península de Paracas.
Carlos González Ramírez, creador gráfico y docente en prestigiosas instituciones educativas es hoy uno de los más notables maestros de la comunicación visual en el Perú. Y esta exposición retrospectiva de su valiosa obra no solo es un justo homenaje a su talento y dedicación, sino que es también una gran enseñanza para quienes resueltamente y con pasión se inician en
